Shiite students face bias in S Arabia, admissions withdrawn By: Abdulali/ Shila Abulhasan/ Ali Muradi DAMMAM, Saudi Arabia: Saudi authorities have deprived more than 90 Shiite students from their right of studying the nursing, sources said. According to details ninety-five Shiite girl students were denied of admission in the Faculty of health Sciences for girls in Dammam after the Minister of Health gave approval for their study in the faculty, and their names were spread in the local newspapers and the ministry site. More than 4,500 graduates (girls and boys) of the current year from different regions of kingdom were accepted in health faculties and institutes belonging to Ministry of Health, and thereafter their names were published in the Ministry of Health site and also in the newspapers issued Tuesday 3rd of Jamady II (6th month of Islamic calendar), with a warning to all of the accepted students from the general supervisor of the administration of health institutes and faculties under the ministry to contact quickly the prescribed faculties and institutes for the completion of rest of the necessary measures within two weeks from the mentioned date. The students made contact with the faculties and institutes wherein they were accepted and directed. But, the Faculty of Health Sciences for girls in Dammam refused to receive the 95 Shiite students despite they were accepted in the faculty by health ministry. They were told that the faculty received a letter via fax from the ministry in Riyadh that includes the names different from that which were published in the site and the newspapers. Their admissions were withdrawn just for they were Shiite despite they got highest marks as compared to the other students who were admitted in the faculty. Knowing all this, the 95 students began weeping and crying while some others suffered hysteria attacks. The modification in names was made only in the faculty of Dammam where Shiites are in great number. The students’ names are: - Ibtisam Salman Ahmad Al-Modan
Note: Please send urgent letter to prince Abdullah in Riyadh on the issue END |
