Saudi Arabia denounces shelling on Najaf shrine By: Abdulali RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: The Saudi government has condemned the shelling on the holy shrine of Al-Imam Ali (peace be on him) in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf. The SPA news agency quoted a foreign ministry official as saying: “The government of Saudi Arabia condemns the shelling of the Imam Ali shrine in Najaf.” “The kingdom, which denounces this act irrespective of the side that carried it out, stresses that mosques and graveyards have sanctity in Islam which should be respected and not violated,” he said. Attack with rockets on Tuesday caused damage to the upper part of one of the main golden gates and a curtain in the holy mausoleum Tuesday, wounding several pilgrims. END |
