US warns of possible terror assaults in Gulf

WASHINGTON: The US State Department has warned of possible terror attacks against Americans and US interests in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Peninsula region.

In a public announcement, the department said: "The US government continues to receive information about potential terrorist actions against US interests abroad."

"There is growing concern that individuals may be planning terrorist actions against United States citizens and interests in the region of the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula," the announcement said. "US citizens should exercise caution in those areas at this time."

The department provided no details as to which individual states were considered possible venues for terror attacks, or where or when assaults could occur.

US declines Oregon travel permission to Iran's UN ambassador

NEW YORK: The US State Department has refused to permit Iran's UN ambassador Hadi Nejad Husseinian to travel to Portland, Oregon in the northwest United States, the diplomat's press service said Thursday.

According to press service representative Hussein Nosret, Husseinian, who was due to make a speech in Oregon, had been invited to speak by the World Affairs Council of Oregon.

Husseinian was not told why permission had been refused Wednesday. Nosret said this was the third time the State Department had failed to authorize Hosseinian to travel outside New York City where the UN is headquartered. Diplomats of states considered hostile by the US government need special permission to make such trips.

26 killed in west Sudan

KHARTOUM, Sudan: Sudanese police said on Thursday that gunmen, apparently regional tribesmen, killed 26 villagers and torched three villages during a rampage in western Sudan.

Talking to a news agency, Police spokesman Major General Sayyed al-Hussein said that the gunmen on Tuesday morning set fire to Debbah Taira, Um-Haraz al-Umdah and Um-Haraz al-Madrasah villages, all in West Darfur State.

They unleashed an intensive shootout on the villagers before they withdrew, leaving the dead and wounded persons behind, he said.

The motive was not immediately clear.

Rich in outlook and nicely bonded,
in the mid 60's I was founded.

A few people's dream,
I later became a reality.

Built on a corner I am kept,
forgotten there empty I am left.

Burnt to ashes once before,
people vowed, "Never again - no more ! "

But still everyday, some dust I gather,
While Muslims neglect me and laugh together.

Haraam, Bollywood films, seaside holidays
and roast meat parties, keep you away !
You should be here in time of 'wajib' salaat,
Instead you are misled and go astray!

In Muhurram in masses you cry:
"Ya-Abbass ! Haye-Zainab! Ya-Hussain!
Had we been in Kerbala,
we'd have shared your sorrow and pain;
and also died, saving Islam Hussain !"

Do you really understand the sacrifices made?
Or are they empty words, you repeat you heard?

You scream for Zainab's veil
But go without Hijaab!
You mistreat innocent children
And cry for Ume Rubab!
You curse Yazeed's misdeeds,
Yet are blinded by worldly greed!
You flaunt melody from the pulpit,
Miserably failing to understand!
You remember Sajaad's suffering,
But forget to prostrate!

Out of 365 days a year, less than 10 days you attend.
Is this really Islam? Or just cultural trend?

Truth and justice you don't care !
Tell me honestly, is this fair ?
Demolish, destroy me, don't you dare;
this is something I can't bare !

O' Muslims awaken open your ears and your eyes.
Live Like Ali (a.s.)
Die Like Hussain (a.s.)
I shall give evidence on Judgment Day,
who was absent and who came to pray !

Message of Islam is no joke or game,
Hussainia Mosque is my name !

Syed Fazal Hussain Shah expires

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Renowned religious figure, elderly shia leader Syed Fazal Hussain Shah Kazmi has died on Thursday in General Hospital due to illness.

He was son of renowned shia mubaligh and poet Syed Shah Ameer Kazmi (founder of Masjid e kazmia Darbar Shah Piyara), brother in law of Bava Syed Karam Hussain Shah Kazmi (late), father of Syed Ibrar Hussain, Syed Aqdas Hussain Shah and Syed Mohsin Ali Kazmi, and respected grandfather of Syed Ala Haider Kazmi - Central president Mukhtar Students Organization Pakistan (MSO).

Syed Fazal Hussain Kazmi was laid to rest in Darbar Sakhi Shah Piyara Kazmi al Mash'hadi, Chuhr Harpal Rawalpindi. His funeral prayer, led by Imam Juma wal Jamaat Masjid Kazmia Darbar Shah Piyara, Allama Syed Matloob Hussain Taqi, was attended by a large number of religious, social and political dignitaries besides the representative delegate of Quaid-e-Millat-e-Jafariya Pakistan Agha Moosavi.

According to the announcement of bereaved family marasim-e-tazeeat including fateha khawani for deceased will be performed after Ayyam-e-Aza (Rabiul Awwal 8).
