Ashura marked throughout the world with reverence

DAMASCUS, Syria: Muslims marked Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram ul Haram, with great religious reverence and solemnity in commemoration of the supreme sacrifice rendered by The Lord of Martyrs Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) for the supremacy of Islam, throughout world, including Iraq, Iran, Syria, United states, Britain, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Greece, Canada, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, Australia, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Lebanon, Kuwait, China, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and United Arab Emirates.

In Iraq, Turkey, United Kingdom, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Lebanon and some other parts Ashura was on Sunday while in the rest of the world it fell on Monday.

On this occasion, A'amaal-e-Ashura were offered, Majalis-e-Aza were held in Mosques, Imambargahs, Hussainiyas and Azakhanas, and zuljinah and Alam processions were taken out.

Mourners, wearing black mourning dress and chanting "Ya Hussain, Ya Hussain" performed matam, Zanjeer Zani and Qama Zani to pay homage to Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH & HP) and his 72 die-hard companions who offered sacrifice for the cause of Islam.
