MOSCOW, Russia: At least 29 people have been killed and up to 150 others injured when a terrorist bomb exploded in the main square of a southern Russian town bordering Chechnya on Thursday during a military parade.
An interior ministry spokesman said the explosion in the Dagestan town of Kaspiisk targeted a group of Russian marines as they marched past a bus taking an army brass band to a ceremony for the 57th anniversary of victory in World War II.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the blast calling it a terrorist act and vowed to punish those responsible.
France: Blast won't affect friendly ties with Pak
By: Special Reporter
KARACHI, Pakistan: France's new defense minister, Ms. Michele Alliot Marie, has declared that Wednesday's Karachi attack which left 12 French nationals dead, will not affect friendly ties between France and Pakistan.
Speaking at a press conference at the French Consulate here on Thursday at the conclusion of her daylong visit to Karachi, Marie said that if some people meant through this terrorist act that the two countries would move away from each other, they are mistaken.
The French Defence Minister believed that on the contrary the two countries would come closer together.
During her visit, she also inquired about the welfare of the injured French nationals at the Agha Khan Hospital and visited the site of the blast.
Bush slates terror attack in Karachi
WASHINGTON: US President Bush deplored and condemned the suicide bombing in Karachi that killed 16 people including 12 French nationals, describing it a heinous attack on two of US closest allies in the war on terrorism.
In a statement released by the White House, Bush said: "On behalf of the American people, I extend my condolences to the families of the victims, and the people of Pakistan and France, whose citizens were killed in this attack."
"The United States deplores and condemns the terrorist murders carried out today by a suicide bomber in Karachi," the statement said.

Riyadh to keep continue humanitarian aid to Pals despite Israeli charges
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: Saudi deputy interior minister said kingdom is determined to keep paying out humanitarian aid to the Palestinians despite Israeli claims the money funds "terrorism," and termed the Israeli accusations "baseless lies".
After attending a Gulf interior ministers' conference Prince Ahmad bin Abdul Aziz told newsmen: "Undoubtedly, we will continue extending humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority. This is natural."
Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Sharon called for an immediate halt to Riyadh's support for Palestinian groups and families of martyrdom-seeking bombers.
Sharon said Saudi Arabia would be included in a proposed Mideast peace conference only if the transfer of funds stopped.
There are times in the history of humanity when we may need more devotion, positive energy, active humanitarian participation, and prayers. When human technology fails, there is always time for spirituality and prayers. Why prayers, you may ask. How can meditation smooth the path of human struggle? I would like to quote from one of my books, The Nature of Miracle:
When we logically analyze and evaluate any critical situation, common sense tells us how to adjust and accept the outcome. However, when it comes to experiencing an unpleasant or difficult-to-handle incident, we deeply wish for help--for a power that changes the course of destiny, turns harship into ease, transforms war into peace, and helps us to overcome the burden of distraction and tension. Such an urge for powerful help increases when our normal means of solutions and scientific approaches fail. That is when we rely on a power to make a miracle happen and it is notheworthy that miracles do happen.
ON THE POWER OF PRAYERS
In studying the history of civilization, many times we come across records of miraculous happenings, supernatural events, or a sudden change in the course of destiny. Such events are seen as a result of ceremonies, rituals, and spiritual gatherings. We have seen or read, for example, about dances for rain in time of drought, and in many cases, rain has actually fallen after such ceremonies. Many religious, spiritual groups and cultures may have flourished upon ritual grounds, sacred circles, and group ceremonies, while chanting, holding hands and transferring energies. Whether they be ancient tribal ceremonies, Shamanism, Yogism, Hinduism, or monotheistic religious ceremonies, these sacred rituals and praying vitalize the human spirit, helping one to feel connected to others, and reducing the pressure of loneliness and isolation. Many times, as a result of these gatherings, miracles do happen. Whether or not "science" or any narrow sighted intellects ignore miraculous happening makes no actual difference. Miracles do happen.
Let us examine the rituals, or group efforts, as well as meditation and the effort of individuals from the introduction of The Nature of Miracle.
When a group of people get together and form an intentional unity, their hearts connect, and in this unified circle of connected, individual energies, an extremely powerful energy begins to be created. In this union of energies, the energies do not add, they multiply. And if there are extremely powerful people, with powerful concentrative abilities among this group, the multiplication of energies will increase even more. Such meditated and concentrated energy is creative and effective. It can create and it can direct forces to a favorable destination. It may actually effect the course of energy waves. This is how prayers become effective.
In Sufi Zikr (chanting) ceremonies, Sufis sit in a circle, with their knees side by side, to the next person. The one who is the leader of the Zikr is also sitting in that group. They are all in harmony with each other and have one common goal. The individual and the group goal are united and aimed at a harmonious understanding of the Divine. Their Zikr is: La illaha illalllah--there is nothing but the Divine. The Zikr is repeated continuously and, with it, the group energy is connected with a precise and estimated beat that multiplies. Such powerful concentrated and multiplied magnetic energy is surely a very powerful force. The power of such a circle of Zikr is so strong that people in need may request healing for their loved ones, wish relief from danger or a difficult situation and may ask the attendants of the circle to pray for them. The history of Sufism has shown that relief has come and miracles have happened as a reesult. The cure of healing may not have scientific reasons or any similarities, yet, nevertheless, healings have happened and wishes have been granted. The logic is there for those who areeager to learn and do not feareager to learn and do not fear freedom. This is how prayers will heal and transform.
Hazrat Mir Ghotbeddin writes in Destination: Eternity:
"Since nothing will vanish into space, no matter how far the light wave travels from its center, it will always be observable by suitable receivers. The same is true for your actions and deeds of goodness or wickedness, servitude or treachery, friendship or enmity, the hidden or apparent. They are all carried away by the illuminated and light wave lines. They will be so deeply engraved onto the Existence that nothing can possibly erase them. They will remain, ready to be reviewed at the proper time."
If we understand that the record of our beings will forever remain upon the face of the Existence, perhaps we may become more watchful of the steps we take, so that when our images become visible to the eyes that see, we are not ashamed of our actions.
