Imam Ali (AS) congregation at Ayat Khomeini's tomb By: Sheikh Muhammad Khurasani TEHRAN, Iran: To commemorate Hazrat Imam Ali (AS) martyrdom anniversary a mourning congregation was held at the founder of Islamic Republic of Iran late Ayatullah Roohullah Khomeini's mausoleum in Tehran on Tuesday night. Addressing thousands of mourners, President Mohammad Khatami said: “Imam Ali (AS) is not only a model to be followed by individuals, but we are determined to take a decisive measure and develop a religious democracy in the Islamic Republic of Iran in the name of God, the Prophet (SAW), Imam Ali (AS) and his descendants (AS).” “Under the current sensitive circumstances, we are in dire need to get fully acquainted with the character of Imam Ali (AS),” he said. Khatami told mourners: “Imam Ali (AS)’s desired community of justice is one in which the oppressed might feel safe to face the offender and claim his violated rights without any fear.” Pointing to Imam Ali (AS) as the “constant martyr of the history” who is beyond time, place and the history, the president underlined that the human respect and freedom under the reign of Imam Ali (AS) was not only limited to his supporters but his serious opponents were also subject to such a respect and human rights, unlike any other ruling body in the course of history.
