Basra Christians not to celebrate Christmas for Moharram

BASRA, Iraq: Christian community in Basra have decided not to celebrate Christmas on December 25 as it coincides with the mourning month of Moharram and in the wake of incident of Baghdad church, and they will put their money in holding Husseini processions.

Head of religious minorities in Basra governorate council Saad Matti Batres said in a press note that Christians will not celebrate Christmas for Moharram and also church terrorism.

He further said that Christian religious leaders in the governorate have stressed on the need to avoid show of happiness and celebrations.
