HOLY CITY OF KARBALA, Iraq: Tens of thousands of mourners participated in Sha’a’er wa Maraseem Azaiyah (mourning rituals) in the holy city of Karbala marking the demise anniversary of Sayyedah Fatimah Al-Kalabiyah – Omm Al-Banin (a.s.) – spouse of Al-Imam Ali b. Abi Talib (a.s.).

The rituals were held at the holy Husseini shrine compound on Tuesday May 17, Jamadi Al-Aakherah 13. Replica coffin of the holy lady, mother of Abo’l Fadhl Al-Abbas (a.s.), was also taken out. About her, Aqeel b. Abi Talib (a.s.) had said: no one is brave and courageous in Arabia more than her forefathers.

Omm Al-Banin (a.s.) was a poetess; after unjust killing of Al-Imam Abi Abdellah Al-Hussein (a.s.) and her four sons, she would go to Al-Baqee along with the son of Abo’l Fadhl Al-Abbas (a.s.) Abaidullah and recited elegies. People would gather, listen to her and cry. She also organized majales al-Husseini at her home. Her holy garve is on the western side of Jannatul Baqee.
