Iran mourns on Chehlum Imam Hussain (a) By: Sheikh Muhammad Khurasani HOLY CITY OF MASH’HAD, Iran: Majalis-e-Aza and Jaloos haye-e-Aza were held across Iran on Wednesday marking Chehlum of Hazrat Aba Abdillah Al-Hussain (AS) and his 72 diehard companions who offered supreme sacrifice in the burning plain of Karbala for defense of Islam some 1,400 years ago.
Holy cities of Mash’had and Qom which house the holy Shrines of Hazrat Imam Ali bin Mousa Ar-Reza and his sister Hazrat Sayyidah Fatimah Al-Masoomah (SA) were deeply grieved on Chehlum. Thousands of pilgrims with tears, wails and cries visited the shrines to mourn the day and to extend their condolences to the Imam (AS) and her sister (SA). They recited dirges and elegies and performed Seena-Zani and Zanjir-Zani. Majalis were held at the tomb of the founder of Islamic Republic of Iran Grand Ayatullah Roohullah Khomeini in Tehran as well as tombs of a number of Imamzadgaan in holy cities of Mash’had and Qom.
