Canadian Muslims preparing to observe Karbala Martyrs’ 40th By: Yawar Mehdi/ Momeena Mehdi TORONTO, Canada: Followers of Ahlul Bayt (AS) in Toronto will commemorate on Saturday 19th April 2003 the Chehlum (fortieth) of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his 72 diehard companions who emancipated humanity by inflicting an eternal blow to the treacherous diplomacy, oppression and evil. It can better be imagined then described the physical suffering of Imam Hussain (A.S), his relative and companions in the burning desert under the scorching Arabian sun, the wriggling of the babies, nothing to feed, no water to drink, a worst torturous situation surrounded by most merciless enemy in the year 680. There is no doubt that Imam Hussain (AS) suffered a lot of physical suffering but he gained unprecedented moral victory over injustice, immorality and usurping. Imam Hussain (AS)’s sacrifices and sufferings are unparalleled in human history. He not only revived the true principles of Islam but also emerged as the leader and a symbol of uprightness for entire mankind. On 19th April, a mourning procession (similar to Toronto Ashura Procession) will start at 3.00 pm from Milliken Park CRC 4325 McCOWAN road and leave for Steeles Avenue and turn to Middlefield for Hussainiyah, Imam Bargha Passmore Avenue.
