Bahrain's Al-Jamri shifted to Saudi hospital from Germany By: Sultan Ahmed MANAMA, Bahrain: Bahrain's leading Hujjatul Islam Sheikh Abdul Ameer Al-Jamri has been shifted to a Saudi hospital for further treatment related to multiple strokes, kidney and heart ailments. This was told by Sheikh Al-Jamri’s eldest son on Thursday. The Hujjatul Islam, hospitalized in Germany since May, was admitted to the Prince Sultan Humanitarian Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on January 27. “He is showing improvement… We are praying for him to regain his health and return to his homeland,” his son said. Bahrain's Health Ministry has been paying the bills for Al-Jamri who is widely accepted as the spiritual leader of the country's opposition, which waged a campaign for political reform in the 1990s. A few days after he underwent a spinal surgery at the Kilinikum Karlsbad near Karlsruhe in southwestern Germany, Al-Jamri suffered a stroke and developed kidney problems and a blood infection. He later lapsed into a coma. Soon after regaining consciousness, he developed internal bleeding followed by another stroke. He had a heart bypass operation in 2000. END |
