Iran lifts house arrest on Ayat Montazeri

TEHRAN, Iran: The house arrest on Iran's Grand Ayatullah Hussein Ali Montazeri has been lifted, the official IRNA reported Monday.
The Supreme National Security Council that is the highest security decision-making body issued the decision to lift the house arrest. It will take effect Tuesday.
The Iranian government since after the death of the founder of Islamic Revolution Grand Ayatullah Roohullah Khomeini has considered Ayatullah Montazeri as topmost opposition.
He has been in deteriorating health and calls have increased over the past few weeks to lift the house arrest.
