Pakistanis mark Fatimah Jinnah’s death anniversary By: Salman Alvi
KARACHI, Pakistan: The 36th death anniversary of Mother of the Nation Fatimah Jinnah was observed on Wednesday throughout Pakistan with reverence and devotion. On this occasion, Majalis-e-Tarahim, Quran-Khwani, seminars, poetic gatherings and conferences were organized attended by hosts of people in different parts of the country. Flocks visited her tomb housed in the port city of Karachi, laid floral wreaths on her grave and offered fateha-khwani. Electronic media broadcast special programs while print media issued supplications to mark the anniversary in which the great services of the Mother of Nation Fatimah Jinnah were highlighted. Miss Fatimah Jinnah, younger sister of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, was born in 1893. She joined the Bandra Convent in 1902. In 1919 she got admitted to the highly competitive University of Calcutta where she attended the Dr. Ahmad Dental College. After she qualified, Jinnah went along with her idea of opening a dental clinic in Bombay and helped her set it up in 1923. She stood by the side of her brother in his struggle to form Pakistan – the only State on the face of the earth world, which came into being on the ideology of Islam. END |
