Palestinians protest in Jabaliya for prisoners’ release

JABALIYA: Thousands of Palestinian demonstrators marched on Friday in Jabaliya refugee camp, northern Gaza Strip, seeking the release of their relatives and other Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.

The protestors, some with headbands that read: “No God but Allah and Muhammad (s) is the Prophet of Allah”, were waving flags while holding up prisoners’ portraits.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Minister for Security affairs Muhammad Dahlan urged Israel to free thousands of Palestinian prisoners and withdraw from more occupied areas saying this was “vital” to bolster a shaky truce with Palestinians. Dahlan said he would raise the issue in a meeting Thursday with Israeli Defense Minister.

“We are calling for the release of all Palestinian prisoners and especially those prisoners who spent long years in prisons including the ill and the elderly,” he told newsmen after talks with Egyptian mediators in Gaza.
