Israel razes Mosque foundations cooling Vatican anger

HELD JERUSALEM: Israeli Arabs on Tuesday protested against the demolition of the foundations of a planned mosque near Nazareth's main Christian shrine, and according to reports dozens of Muslim protestors scuffled with police protecting the mechanical wreckers accomplishing the destruction.

Police arrested more than half a dozen demonstrators.
Carrying out a court demolition order, Israeli wreckers early Tuesday destroyed the foundations of the mosque next to the Basilica of the Annunciation, where Christians believe the Angel Gabriel (AS) foretold the birth of Jesus (AS). Authorities, who removed hundreds of local Muslims from the site, used jackhammers to tear down the construction.
The mosque construction project had raised tensions between Christians and Muslims in Nazareth as well as drew anger and criticism from the Vatican and the White House.
