Palestinians condemn Israeli decision of Al-Aqsa visits By: Ahmad Hammadi GAZA CITY: Israel's decision to allow foreign tourists and Israelis to visit Haram Al-Sharif, or the Noble Sanctuary, which has been closed to them since the outbreak of intifada in Sept 2000, has drawn severe criticism, condemnation and widespread anger of Palestinians. Issuing a warning that “this decision puts at risk the Christian and Muslim holy sites,” the Palestinian leadership called on the international community to impede this provocative action which risks sparking an explosion. “This is a conspiracy that started in the last moment under the pretext of tourism… But they are extremists who seek to harm Haram Al-Sharif,” it said. Tuesday, Israeli authorities said they would allow visits to continue to what Jews know as Temple Mount and Muslims as Haram Al-Sharif. Separately, Israel completed a handover of the West Bank town of Bethlehem to Palestinian police on Wednesday under a security pact. END |
