Prayer leader’s martyrdom sparks protests in Held Kashmir By: A. A. Rathor SRINAGAR, Held Kashmir: Massive protests broke out against the government on Monday in Indian-occupied Kashmir after the martyrdom of a Kashmiri prayer leader and his son at the hands of Indian troops. Indian soldiers martyred local Imam Abdul Qayyum and his son Maqsood Ahmed on Sunday night in the village of Wagal, 30 kilometers north of Srinagar, when they walked into an army ambush made to trap Mujahideen. The demonstrators were protesting against human rights violations by policemen and soldiers demanding action against troops involved in the killing. They blocked the main road and authorities had to suspend traffic on the main Srinagar-Baramulla highway. Police arrested dozens of protestors. The situation in the area was tense. END |
