Israel holds Jerusalem Mufti, raids Gaza By: Ahmad Hammadi GAZA CITY: Israel has detained the Mufti of Jerusalem Sheikh Ekrimah Sabrie on Tuesday for questioning over the Islamic Movement in Israel, the police revealed Wednesday. The Mufti had issued statements in which he opposed the idea of allowing Christian and Jewish visitors to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque, an idea suggested by the Jerusalem Police chief. Sheikh Ekrimah stressed that the Islamic Commission as well as the Ministry of Endowments and the Holy Sites in Jerusalem have decided since Intifadha began in 2000 not to allow any non-Muslim tourist to go into the Mosque. In another development, Israeli troops backed by tanks and bulldozers made an incursion into the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah on Wednesday destroying several houses and leaving dozens homeless.
