Ayat Seestani demands US let Iraqis to rule By: Nabil Raza
WASHINGTON: The Washington Post reported in its Monday editions that Grand Ayatullah Ali As-Seestani has expressed “great unease” over the 10-week-old US occupation of the holy land of Iraq. The Ayatullah, moreover, demanded that the United States let Iraqi people to rule themselves but stopped far short of demanding a US withdrawal, according to the paper. The newspaper said As-Seestani issued his demand from the southern holy city of Najaf that houses the holy shrine of Al-Imam Ali (AS) in written responses to its questions. “We feel great unease over their goals, and we see that it is necessary that they should make room for Iraqis to rule themselves by themselves without foreign intervention,” As-Seestani was quoted by the paper as saying.
