Israel captures over 200 Palestinians in West Bank

JERUSALEM: In a major sweep targeting the Hamas, the Israeli forces arrested more than 200 Palestinians on Tuesday in the West Bank as security talks between Palestinian and Israeli officials took a positive turn.
The operation was carried out by elite infantry units.
During talks, Israel said it would be ready to vacate Bethlehem and the northern Gaza Strip in exchange for a Palestinian crackdown on armed factions. But the Palestinians demanded Israel end its policy of capturing wanted Palestinians in the territories.
On Sunday, following the martyrdom of a top Hamas official in the West Bank, Israeli government had threatened to continue tracking Palestinians fighting for their independence if the Palestinian Authority does not crack down on them.
