Two Pals martyred; Israeli army dismantles settlement

GAZA STRIP: The Israeli army on Wednesday martyred two Palestinians affiliated with Hamas in a gunbattle in the northern Gaza Strip as the American envoy John Wolf conversed nearby with the Palestinian Premier Mahmoud Abbas in a bid to hold up a peace plan tattered by bloodshed.
According to a statement issued by Hamas' military wing the two men aged 20 and 23 were martyred in a raid on an Israeli army outpost in the town of Beit Hanoun. It said the attack was to avenge Israel's killing of senior Hamas commander Abdullah Qawasmeh on Sunday in Hebron.
“We promise that the flag of jihad (holy war) and resistance will remain raised until the end of the (Israeli) occupation,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army on Wednesday dismantled an illegal settlement in the West Bank of more than 60 illegal outposts set up since Sharon took office in March 2001. All Jewish settlements in the occupied territories are regarded as illegal under international law.
