Palestinians protest for jailed relatives in Israeli bars By: Ahmad Hammadi
RAMALLAH: A massive demonstration was witnessed in front the Palestinian Premier Mahmoud Abbas office in the West Bank town of Ramallah on Saturday to demand the release of thousands of Palestinians in Israeli jails. The protestors while holding photographs and portraits of their relatives jailed in Israeli prisons were shouting slogans against Israel and the United States.
Fact sheets released by human rights groups say that more than 600,000 Palestinians have been behind Israeli bars since 1967 while Israel held some 175,000 Palestinians during 1987-1994. Meanwhile, US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice is holding talks with Israeli and Palestinian officials this weekend in a bid to build on an agreement that withdraws Israeli security forces from northern Gaza. Rice is due to meet separately with Palestinian Prime Minister in Jericho and Israeli Prime Minister in Jerusalem. END |
