Rallies mark 36th anniversary of Israeli occupation

NABLUS, West Bank: Commemorating the 36th anniversary of the Mideast War when Israel occupied the Arab lands of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, protest rallies were staged in Palestine, Britain, Ireland and some other parts of the world on Thursday.

Hundreds of Palestinians marched toward a military checkpoint on the outskirts of the West Bank town of Nablus to mark the occasion. The Israeli soldiers later dispersed the demonstration with tear gas.

In London, a picket organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and in coordination with the International Solidarity Movement and the Stop the War Coalition was held outside the Prime Minister's office to raise the profile of the international day of action for justice in Palestine.

Meanwhile, Palestinian security sources said Israeli forces on Thursday raided Palestinian town of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip flattening a number of homes before withdrawing.
