Arafat demands UN resolutions implementation on Nakba Day; 4 martyred By: Ahmad Hammadi GAZA CITY: At least four Palestinians including a 12-year-old Palestinian boy were martyred and several buildings destroyed when the Israeli army launched a large incursion in the northern Gaza Strip early Thursday, the day Palestinians marked 55th “Nakba Day”, the catastrophe, to commemorate their displacement during Israel's illegal creation in 1948. According to Palestinian security sources nearly 5-dozen Israeli tanks, armored vehicles and bulldozers backed by two attack helicopters entered Beit Hanoun, cutting the northern town off from the rest of the Gaza Strip.
In a statement on the anniversary of Israeli occupation of Palestine, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat said that under the shadow of Israeli occupation talks about security is equal to betrayal to the people of Palestine. He demanded implementation of the UN resolutions regarding Palestine issue. He said without Israeli withdrawal from occupied Palestinian territories permanent and complete peace in the region is impossible. Palestinians marked the day with marches, demonstrations and a three-minute siren. END |
