Strike marks 'Renewal of Pledge Day' in H Kashmir By: A. A. Rathor SRINAGAR, Held Kashmir: In commemoration of Renewal of Pledge Day to mark the death anniversary of Kashmiri leaders Mir Vaiz Muhammad Farouq and Khwaja Abdul Ghani Lone, a one-day strike was observed across Indian-Held Kashmir on Wednesday. The strike called by the All Parties Huriyyat Conference (APHC) shut the markets, business centers, offices and educational institutions while traffic was also off the road. Meanwhile, a day long all India strike on Wednesday called by various trade unions and political parties in protest against the government's economic policies hit government offices and state firms including banks. Government workers across India went on strike. According to National Confederation of Bank Employees joint secretary V.K. Gupta about 50 million workers roughly equal to the population of South Korea were on strike. END |
