Ayat Khamenei condoles Iraqi clerics’ martyrdom

TEHRAN, Iran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatullah Ali Khamenei has extended his condolence to the Imam of the era, or Hazrat Imam Zamanah (ATF), the theological seminary of holy city of Najaf, Maraje Uzzam, Ulama and all bereaved families over the martyrdom of a large number of the Iraqi Shiite clerics at the hands of Saddam.

In a message of condolences, the Ayatullah said reliable reports received from Baghdad told that a group of Shiite ulama of the theological seminary of holy city of Najaf who were detained for several years and were thought to be alive, have been martyred by the Baathist regime.

Paying tribute to all those clerics especially Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad Baqer As-Sadr, Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad As-Sadr, Ayatullah Haaj Mirza Ali Gharvi Tabrezi, Ayatullah Haaj Sheikh Mortaza Barojurdi, he said that is only a small group from among tens of thousands of innocent people who have been martyred and executed by the Iraqi regime during the past years.

Ayatullah Khamenei expressed his condolences to the Iran Judiciary Chief Ayatullah Sayyid Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi over martyrdom of his three brothers in Iraq, the bereaved family of Al-Hakim especially SCIRI chairman Ayatullah Sayyid Baqer Al-Hakim on martyrdom of 18 members of their family in the Iraqi prisons, as well as families of Bahrul Uloom, Sahib-e-Jawaher, Khalkhali, Ansari Qummi, Khoei, Shirazi, Mar’ashi and Ashkouri.
