Mourning Day marked in Iran By: Sheikh Muhammad Khurasani TEHRAN, Iran: Majalis-e-Aza and Majalis-e-Fatiha were held and Hawzaat Ilmiyah, or theology seminaries, shut down throughout Iran like Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Kuwait on Wednesday, 7 May, 5 Rabiul Awwal, marking the Mourning Day to pay homage to holy city of Najaf’s 182 Ulama-e-Din whose martyrdom at the hands of despotic Saddam regime was revealed recently.
Besides a number of Ulama and people from different walks of life, Iranian supreme leader Ayatullah Ali Khamenei attended a Majlis-e-Fatiha organized at Arak Mosque in Tehran. Fatiha was recited for the departed souls, noha khawani was conducted in remembrance of martyred ulama and killings were severely condemned. Majalis were also witnessed at Azam Mosque adjacent to the holy Shrine of Hazrat Sayyidah Fatimah Al-Masoomah (SA) in the holy city of Qom and office of Ayatullah Seestani in the same city. Addressing a similar mourning program, the Head of Khomein Hawza in central Iran Sayyid Javad Rezavi said: “America is the main culprit behind the martyrdom of Iraqi Shiite clerics since they were martyred under the American support by the cruel Iraqi regime.” Ulama and Ayaat martyred by Saddam regime included: Ayatullah Murtaza Al-Khalkhali, Ayatullah Sayyid Izzuddin Bahrul Uloom, Ayatullah Sayyid Jafar Bahrul Uloom, Ayatullah Sayyid Alauddin Bahrul Uloom, Ayatullah Sheikh Muhammad Taqi Al-Jawaheri, Ayatullah Sheikh Muhammad Al-Ansari Al-Qommi, Ayatullah Ahmed Ash-Shahroudi, Ayatullah Ahmed Ansari Al-Qommi, Ayatullah Sayyid Reza Mosawi as well as Khoei, Shirazi, Hakim, Mar’ashi and Ashkouri.
