Saudi monarch warns terrorists of "iron fist"

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: Saudi monarch has warned terrorists they will be crushed with an “iron fist” and deployed thousands of security troops to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina to protect Ramadan pilgrims besides tightening security at diplomatic compounds and other sensitive sites.

Speaking at a weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday night, king Fahd warned of “stiff retaliation” after a devastating suicide attack at a Riyadh housing compound left at least 17 people dead.

The king told the meeting that the country “would hit hard the criminals who commit this type of act and those who command them.” He made sure that it is safe for people to travel to the holy city of Mecca during the holy month of Ramadan.

His vow to crack down on the terrorist came as officials warned that more attacks could come at any time.
