Mecca International Quran contest begins By: Abdulali MECCA, Saudi Arabia: More than 220 Huffaz and Quraa from 35 countries are participating the King Abdul Aziz International Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition in the holy city of Mecca, reports said Tuesday. The contest is organized by the Saudi Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs that said: “This competition has been going on every year for the last quarter of a century… the competition has improved its programs and activities.” Minister for Endowments and Islamic Affairs said that the government of Saudi Arabia gives special attention to this annual event and matters related to it such as the establishment of institutions concerned with the Holy Quran.
