Stop Israeli barrier plans, Pals appeal to “Quartet”

RAMALLAH, West Bank: World powers steering Mideast peacemaking have been asked by the Palestinians on Thursday to prevent Israel going ahead with plans for new barriers deep inside the West Bank.

In letters to the “Quartet”- United Nations, the United States, Russia and European Union - Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat called for urgent action after Israel approved a major new phase of the controversial project on Wednesday.

Erekat said continuing construction of the barriers “translates into demolishing the peace process”. He said the letters urged them to intervene.
