Huge pro-Arafat demos held in Jakarta and West Bank By: Abdullah JAKARTA, Indonesia: Tens of thousands of people in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, protested Sunday against Israel's decision to remove Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. The demonstration was organized by the Muslim-based justice welfare party (PKS). The protestors began marching at mid-day from the welcome monument in central Jakarta and headed towards the United Nations building. Later, the demonstration ended in front of the US embassy. Meanwhile, Israel's vice prime minister said on Sunday killing Arafat was an option in its threat to 'remove' him as an obstacle to peace. In the West Bank city of Nablus, hundreds of Palestinian school students poured into the streets during a demonstration supporting Palestinian President Yasser Arafat on Sunday. END |
