Ayat Sistani refuses to meet Bremer

DUBAI: A spokesman for Iraq's Ayatullah Ali As-Sistani has rejected any contact between the Ayatullah and American occupiers.

UAE's al-Bayan newspaper reported this on Saturday on its website quoting Abdol Mehdi Karbalaei, the Ayatullah's spokesman.

The spokesman while speaking to people gathered for Friday prayers noted that the Iraqi cleric refuses any meeting with the US administrator for Iraq Paul Bremer, or any other American official.

“Americans are not trustworthy, because they have occupied Iraq,” the official said.
