Dar Es-Salaam Quran contest: Tanzanians to meet Iran leader

DAR ES-salaam, Tanzania: A Koran reading and recitation competition sponsored by the Iranian Islamic Cultural Centre was held at Al-Muntazir Hall in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Former President of Tanzania Ali Hassan Mwinyi presided at the competition organized in the last week of July. Winners of the competition were Jumaa Seif, Mohamed Ally, Hussein Ahmed, Ismail Muhiddin, Hamisi Kililu, Latifa Sultan, Sabra Saidi and Ally Hamisi Ibrahim. Others were Saleh Omar, Sufian Almasi, Hassan Komba, Abdullah Omar, Mubarak Hatib and Mussa Abdallah.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director of the Iranian Islamic Cultural Centre, Mohamed Assad, challenged participants who did not excel to try harder next time saying they should not give up.

He said socio-economic problems that were now rampant over the world were the result of people not adhering to religious teachings.

Assad said the centre would send two of the winners to Iran to take part in an international Koran competition scheduled later in the year. He said the Tanzanians would also get the chance to meet Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
