Karbala Ayat, huge rally demand instant halt to Najaf clashes By: Hamoud Kufi HOLY CITY OF KARBALA, Iraq: Ayatullah Sayyed Muhammad Taqi Al-Modarresi has called for immediate halt to the ongoing fighting in the holy city of Najaf as thousands of protestors took to the streets of the holy city of Karbala demanding the same. According to AP a spokesman for Ayatllah Al-Modarresi’s office in the holy city of Karbala Ja’far Muhammad said that renewed clashes and violence between US forces and Mehdi militia in the holy city of Najaf has increased crisis in political situation and that “we urge the need of immediate stop of violence and solution of the problem through peaceful means”. “Also, this is obligatory upon all to keep holy shrines and sacred sites safe from fighting and violence,” he added. In another development, thousands on Sunday staged a demonstration in this holy city severely condemning sacrlige of the holy city of Najaf and demanding halt to violence. The demonstration was taken out from a site near the holy mausoleum of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p), grandson of holy Prophet Muhammad (p). END |
