Iranians mark Martyrdom Anniversary of Emam Sadeq (a.s.)

By: Sheikh Muhammad Khurasani

HOLY CITY OF MASH’HAD, Iran: Martyrdom Anniversary of sixth infallible descendant of holy Prophet Hazret-e-Muhammad (s.w.), Hazret-e-Emam Jafar-e-Sadeq (a.s.), was observed in Iran with due fervor and veneration on 25 Shewwal Al-Mokerram, 8 December.

Throngs of devotees began thronging at the holy shrines of Hazret-e-Emam Ali bin Mousa Ar-Reza (a.s.) and his sister Hazret-e-Masoumeh (a.s.) in the holy cities of Mash’had and Qom respectively on the eve of the martyrdom anniversary.

They organized majales-e-aza at the shrines and performed azadari rituals offering deep condolences to the holy Prophet (s.w.) on the sad occasion. Speakers threw light on the pious life of Hazret-e-Emam Sadeq (a.s.), his character, knowledge, courage, boldness and courtesy.

Majales-e-aza were also held at mosques and husseiniyat in all cities attended by flocks of mourners.

On the eve of 25 Shewwal, marasim-e-azadari (mourning rituals) were held at the tomb of Ayatullah Seyyed Ruhullah Khomeni (late), founder of Islamic Republic of Iran, in Tehran.

According to some traditions, Hazret-e-Emam Jafar-e-Sadeq (a.s.) was martyred on 15 Shewwal while some others give the date of 25 Shewwal. His holy grave houses in the Cemetery of Baqee in the holy city of Medina, Saudi Arabia. It was 1926 when Saudi rulers bulldozed his holy shrine along with the holy shrines of his grandmother Hazret-e-Fatima Zahra (a.s.), three other Emams (a.s.) from the progeny of holy Prophet (s.w.), Holy Prophet (s.w.)’s wives (r.a.), companions (r.a.) and other relatives.

"Knowledge is better than wealth because it protects you while you have to guard wealth. it decreases if you keep on spending it but the more you make use of knowledge ,the more it increases . what you get through wealth disappears as soon as wealth disappears but what you achieve through knowledge will remain even after you."
