Plans to build Islamic cemeteries draw opposition By: Rajab Ali SOMERVILLE, Tenn.: Reports said that an effort to build an Islamic cemetery near Somerville has been met with anti-Muslim sentiment. The Muslim Society of Memphis was looking for a quiet place to bury their dead. They found an unused sod farm about 20 miles east of the city but angry neighbors have protested ever since saying it could be used as a staging ground for terrorists, or it could spread disease from unembalmed bodies. Rabiah Ahmed, a spokeswoman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said she wasn't surprised by the cemetery's critics. “It's not shocking, but it is discouraging.” The discussion continues in the county.
