US HRs org sends open letter to king Abdullah over Iraq By: Mohamed Ali WASHINGTON: Shiia Organization for Protection of Human Rights in the United States has strongly denounced warning of creation of a new Shia crescent issued by King of Jordan. In an open letter to King Abdullah II, the US-based organization described his remarks published in The Washington Post on December 8 a bid aimed at spreading war of hatred against Shiia Muslims in the world. The letter said Abdullah’s remarks are severe violation of human rights and religious freedom and a grave danger for these. Abdullah had warned in an interview to the newspaper that if an Islamic government were elected in Iraq, a new “crescent” of dominant Shia movements or governments could emerge stretching from Iran to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, altering the traditional balance of power between the two main Islamic sects, Shias and Sunnis, and posing new challenges to US interests and allies (Israel, Britain and India).
