Hosayni mourning programs kick off in Saudi Arabia By: Abdulali
QATEEF, Saudi Arabia: Like other global parts, the unparallel sacrifice of Al-Imam Al-Hosayn ben Ali (p) is being commemorated in Saudi Arabia with religious zeal and fervor. In Qateef and Ehsa, large mourning banners inscribed with ‘Ya Hosayn,” “Kullu Yawmin Ashura..” and “Ya Abal Fadhilil Abbas” are hanging and flags of Hadhrat Abbas (p) are fluttering at hosaynyaat.
Green, red and black flags are also viewed on the streets. Large number of mourners, wearing black mourning dresses, attend day-long majeles azaiyah being held at all hosaynyaat and mosques of the cities. Speakers expound the Karbala event. Mourners also come from nearby cities including Ad-Dammam, Al-Khubr, Al-Jubel, and Ad-Dhuhran etc. According to reports, police have set up hurdles on all roads leading to those cities where majales are held including Qateef, Awamiyah and Ehsa in order to stop people coming from nearby cities to the majales.
Men, women and children hold their separate majales to pay homage to Abal Ahrar Al-Imam Al-Hosayn (p). Al-Abbas Mosque in Awamiyah holds a children majles from Muharram 1-11. Meanwhile, some families do not cook foods at their homes during these mourning days; table of Imam Al-Hosayn is served in majales; free drinks are distributed; and till the end of mourning days on Raby Al-Oola 8 no program of merriment is organized.
