India wants dialogue on Babri Mosque after DL call By: Irfan Malik NEW DELHI, India: India's Hindu nationalist-led government on Friday has voiced its assurance of desiring dialogue to resolve the country's most sensitive religious dispute in Ayodhya. The assertion came after the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama, who lives in exile in India, stepped in to appeal for “mutual trust, mutual faith and mutual respect” on the issue. In 1992, Hindu hardliners razed the 16th century Babri mosque in Ayodhya, sparking nationwide communal riots that left about 3,000 people dead. Meanwhile, according to reports on Friday Hindu extremist organization Vishwa Hindu Pareshad has announced to launch an agitation for construction of a temple on the Babri Mosque site. END |
