Six nations cover 72 percent of Umrah pilgrims By: Abdulali DAMASCUS, Syria: Around two million Muslims perform Umrah every year, of these 72 percent is from six countries, according to reports. These six countries are Egypt, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen and Jordan. Nearly one quarter of these pilgrims is from Egypt. Iran comes second with 20 percent of Umrah pilgrims. The percentage of pilgrims from Pakistan and Syria are 11 and 6 respectively while that of Jordan and Yemen five each. The Umrah season begins from the second Hijri month of Safar. The pilgrims usually spend between 20 and 30 days at the Haram Mosque in the holy city of Mecca and the Prophet (peace be on him and his pure progeny)'s Mosque in the holy city of Medina. During their stay, Muslims also visit the holy destructed graves of Ahlul Bayt (peace be on them), Wives of Holy Prophet (peace be on him and his pure progeny), his pious companions (may Allah be please with them) and other leading figures of Islam in the cemetery of Al-Baqee and Cemetery of Al-Mo’ella.
