Yemen probes into Jews taken to Israel

SANAA, Yemen: Yemeni authorities were investigating Yemen’s Jewish families believed to have gone to Israel, Yemeni diplomats said Saturday.

According to the diplomats the foreign ministry was investigating how Yemeni Jews living in New York were “illegally smuggled” to Israel in violation of Yemeni laws.

The government received information based on Israeli press reports that Jewish Yemeni families living in New York State were “lured” into immigrating to Israel, said one diplomat.

The press reports said a “secret operation” by a Zionist organization in the United States was “luring” Yemeni families and smuggling them to the Jewish state.
