Iran officials contradict bomb plot in Qom By: Sheikh Muhammad Khurasani HOLY CITY OF QOM, Iran: Iranian holy city of Qom’s authorities have denied that plotters had planned an attack on the holy mausoleum of Hazrat Fatimeh Al-Masumeh (p) – the daughter of holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (P)’s 7th infallible descendant Imam Al-Kazim (p) and sister of 8th Imam Ar-Reza (p) here, at the same time as similar attacks in Iraq and Pakistan. The Baztab Internet site, a news service close to senior regime figure Mohsen Rezaie, reported that Iranian intelligence agents had foiled a planned mortar attack on the shrine on March 2, Ashura Day. It said five rounds were seized near the shrine. “No such plot was foiled and no explosive devices were found inside or outside of the mausoleum,” asserted Qom's deputy governor Karam Hakimi when AFP questioned him. “However, we are not denying that there could have been telephone threats.” On March 2 Ashura, at least 271 husseini mourners were martyred in a series of coordinated bombings on the holy cities of Karbala and Kazemiyeh. While attacks in Pakistani city of Quetta left at least 53 husseini mourners martyred. END |
