India police beats hussaini mourners in Held Kashmir By: A. A. Rathor SRINAGAR, Held Kashmir: Indian police on Sunday stormed Held-Kashmir husseini mourners detaining dozens as they attempted a Moharram procession in Srinagar.
Moharram processions are banned by the authorities in the Indian-occupied Kashmir. Moharram is the mourning month to commemorate the great sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (as), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (saw), along with his 72 companions more than 14 centuries ago in the battle of Karbala. On Saturday, Kashmiris despite ban took out a mourning procession in the downtown area of Srinagar. They were chanting elegies and beating their chests to pay rich homage to the Martyrs of Karbala.
