Zanjir-zani held during first-ever Greece Husseini procession By: Nabil Raza PIRAEUS, Greece: A first ever mourning procession to commemorate the great sacrifice of holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (p)’s grandson Hazrat Imam Hussein (p) was held in the city of Athens after the Greek government permitted so for the first time.
The procession, attended by large number of mourners, was taken out on March 1 from Azakhana Gulzarezainab Dimitras – 1, 18540 Piraeus. Aun-o-Muhammad dirge-chanting group participated and recited elegies. At Athens' main port of Piraeus, by performing Zangeer-zani (pounding backs with razor blades and knives) in commemoration of Imam Hussein (p)’s martyrdom, the mourners offered their condolences to the Chief of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad (p) on the tragic event of Karbala. The procession terminated at Plateon Street-10 followed by prayers and Niaz. END |
