Bangladeshi spy for Israel jailed By: Irfan Malik DHAKA, Bangladesh: Bangladeshi authorities have imprisoned a Muslim journalist for allegedly spying for Israel, reports said Thursday. Salahuddin Shoaib Choudhury’s supporters and family say his only crime is daring to advocate for more understanding between Jews, Christians and Muslims. Choudhury, the editor of the weekly entertainment magazine “Blitz,” says the government is also punishing him because he has urged officials to establish ties between Bangladesh and Israel. He published articles calling on Bangladesh to recognize Israel. He also helped publish pro-Israeli articles by an American Jew, sparking the beginnings of debate in the Bangladeshi press and in the halls of government. END |
