Thousands bleed to mark darkest day of human history

By: Ismail Zabeeh

HOLY CITY OF KARBALA, Iraq: Ashoora, the tenth day of Muharram-ul-Haram and the darkest day of universal history, was commemorated across the globe on March 02 with religious reverence and solemnity.

The Day was marked to commemorate the greatest and unparallel sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain bin Ali ibn-e-Abi Talib (AS) along with his progeny and companions in the plain of Karbala in 61 AH for the sake of saving high values of Islam.

Millions from across the globe descended at the holy city of Karbala for observation of the Ashoora Day.

Mourning processions of Alam (flag of Hazrat Abbas a.s.) and Zuljinah were taken out during which thousands of mourners shed their blood performing Zanjeer-Zani (hitting backs with razor blades), Qama-Zani (hitting head with swords) and thus paid rich homage to Imam Hussain (AS) who sacrificed everything in defending Islam which is today under obligation to him.

Aamal-e-Ashoora were performed and Majalis-e-Hussaini were held in which speakers recounted martyrdom of Imam Hussain Ibn-e-Ali (AS), the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) offering condolences to the holy family of the prophet (SAW) and his progeny (AS) on the heartrending Karbala incidence. Matam on burning coals was also performed

Central camps by different organizations were set up throughout the routes of the processions to facilitate the Hussaini mourners. Sabil-e-Hussaini were also arranged.

According to reports, Ashoora ceremonies were held in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Greece, Japan, China, South Korea, Lebanon, Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt, United States, Britain, Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Chile, Turkey, Philippines and many other countries.
