Mourning of Imam Hussain (as) in Egypt By: Sultan Ahmed CAIRO, Egypt: Hussaini commemorative sittings and gatherings are also being held in Egypt like other countries to honour the incomparable and unique sacrifice of Imam Hussain (as). Imam Hussain ben Ali (as) by laying sacrifice in 61 A.H. in Karbala saved the high values of humanity and Shariah with his holy blood. In Cairo, flocks descend at a shrine inside Al-Hussain mosque where the severed holy head of the grandson of prophet Mohammed (saw) is believed to be in entombed while according to some other traditions Imam (as)’s head was placed here. The mourners perform aza for the master of martyrs and chief of youth of heavens Imam Hussain (as). Meanwhile, mourning programs are being held at different cities under arrangements of several organizations and foundations. Egypt is also home to: Shrine of Sharika-tul-Hussein Zainab Bint-e-Ali (as) – some reports say that when she returned Medinah, the city of her grandfather Prophet Muhammad (saw), from Karbala, Kufa and Sham (Syria) with other holy ladies of the family and Al-Imam Zainul Abidin (as), Umayyads made the land narrow for them; therefore, they adopted Egypt for stay. And when she stepped in the land of Egypt, the people here warmly welcomed her. Since that date she is here. Shrine of 4-year-old Sayedah Sakinah bintul Hussain (as) – she was also with her aunt Sayedah Zainab (peace of Allah be upon her) when she came to Egypt after the event of Karbala. Place of Al-Imam Ali bin Al-Hussain Zainul Abidin (as) – according to reports he accompanied his aunt Sayedah Zainab (as) in her travel to Egypt. The head of Al-Imam Zainul Abidin (as)’s son Zaid bin Ali bin Al-Hussain (as) was also placed in this place. Besides these, there are several other places belonging to the holy family of Prophet Muhammad (saw) in Egypt and there since the eve of Muharram the aza of Imam Hussain (as) is being observed with throngs attending and extending condolences to the holy family on the tragic event of Karbala.
