Iran’s supreme leader flays US aggression on holy sites By: Sheikh Muhammad Khurasani TEHRAN, Iran: Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatullah Ali Khamenei has called the US disrespect to the Muslim sanctities as an impudent, shameless and imbecile act making clear the world Muslim community and the Iraqi people will not remain silent against the insolents. He was addressing theological students. Referring to the sublime position of the stature of Imam Ali (AS) and Imam Hossein (AS) in the heart of Muslims, he said Muslims cannot bear the US aggression into the holy sites in the Vadi-us-Salam area in Najaf and Karbala. The Vadi-us-Salam or Valley of Peace is a resting place for prophets and saints besides Muslims from the world over. Ayatullah Khamenei chided the US which despite such crimes claims human rights and democracy. He said the recent US scandal in Iraq jails including the Abu Gharib prison is a brand on the American government that would not be recuperated for years. He termed the US sacrilege to the holy sites as a string of wrong-doings which trap the United States in a dilemma that would sank them further, the more they strive. He urged European states to condemn the recent US crimes and that the condemnation should be ratified in light of a UN Security Council resolution. Meanwhile, Iranian Basiji students tried to storm the British embassy in Tehran during a protest against the US-led occupation of Iraq, but the riot police turned them back. They chanted 'Death to America, death to Britain and death to Israel,' as they torched flags of the three countries. The protestors demanded release of Abu Gharib prisoners and condemned clashes in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. END Imam Ali (p) shrine suffers harm; Ayat Sistani’s life in danger
HOLY CITY OF NAJAF/ KUWAIT CITY: The golden dome of the most sacred sites - the holy Shrine of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be on him) - was slightly damaged by four gunshots in fighting Friday between US soldiers and Muqtada As-Sadr’s militiamen, and the chief US military spokesman in Iraq said the militiamen were using religious sites “much like human shields.” |
