Indian Muslims say ready to die for Iraqi brethren By: Irfan Malik NEW DELHI, India: As anti-US sentiments are mounting across world, Indian Muslims took to the streets here on Tuesday to protest against American atrocities in Iraq.
The protesters belonging to the All India Shia-Sunni Front said while chanting anti-US slogans that they were ready to lay down their lives for their Iraqi brethren. They demanded immediate withdrawal of US-led forces from the Iraqi soil. Meanwhile, Iraqis on the second day of a three day sit-in outside the Abu Gharib prison, west of the capital Baghdad, demanded the release of friends and family members jailed here by US forces. Scores of Iraqis, relatives of detainees held by US forces at the detention center, started the three day sit-in to protest against the prisoner abuse scandal. In another development, Iraqi officials dismissed a plan by US President Bush to demolish the notorious Abu Gharib prison and said those running it should be made more accountable. END |
