Egypt conference calls for ending US occupation in Iraq By: Sultan Ahmed CAIRO, Egypt: The 16th international Islamic conference entitled “Tolerance in the Islamic culture” urged international organizations and countries to intervene urgently to end the US occupation of Iraq and returning the country's power and sovereignty to the Iraqis. The four-day conference that ended on May 1 in Cairo was attended by several prominent figures, including ministers, Islamic scholars, and thinkers from the Arab and Muslim world as well as from European countries. It asked the international media not to compare the legitimate struggle being carried out by people against aggression and occupation, with the terrorist acts being perpetrated by a section of people. It also condemned the attacks perpetrated by terrorists in some Arab and Muslim countries, especially in Saudi Arabia. The conference discussed three major topics: Islamic tolerance - theory and practice, Islam and others in international relations and Islamic tolerance between reality and falsehood. END |
